Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about spa pools or swim spas? You’ll find answers to the most common ones below. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, our team is always happy to help.

Hydrotherapy is the therapeutic use of warm water and jet pressure to relieve muscle tension, reduce joint pain, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Our premium spa pools are designed for optimal hydrotherapy, with intentionally positioned jets that target specific muscle groups. Many of our customers find regular use of their spa pool makes a noticeable difference to their overall wellbeing.

The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a distinction. Spa pools are modern, electrically heated units with moulded seats, hydrotherapy jets, and filtration systems. Hot tubs, in their traditional sense, are typically wooden or round in design, may be heated by wood fire, gas, or electricity, and generally lack the jets and sculpted seating found in a contemporary pool.

Our closest model to a traditional “hot tub” is the Cyclone Whirlpool, which features the classic round look, but is equipped with 44 jets and is built from the TuffFrame™ system. This is 100% wood-free making it an exceptionally durable, rot-proof structure.

The key things to consider are insulation quality (which directly impacts running costs), jet placement and variety, the reliability of the pump and filtration system, shell and cabinet construction, and the warranty offered.

Our spas are manufactured by Spa Industries Global – Australia’s largest spa manufacturer with over 30 years of experience – so you can have confidence in the quality and longevity of your pool.

The difference typically comes down to insulation, build quality, and the components used. A poorly insulated spa will cost significantly more to run over time, and lower-grade components are more likely to require repair or replacement.

A quality spa pool is a long-term investment, with the upfront cost of a premium product usually offset by lower running costs and fewer issues over its lifetime. Our premium Cyclone Spas range, for example, features an industry-leading TuffFrame™ structural warranty and 8-layer arctic insulation for maximum energy efficiency.

Most spa pools will reach the desired temperature in about 8 hours from cold, depending on ambient temperature and the size of the unit. Many owners choose to maintain a consistent set temperature rather than heating from cold each time, which is generally more energy-efficient.

Most people find a temperature of between 37°C and 40°C comfortable. 38°C is a popular choice as it closely matches body temperature, providing a relaxing experience without feeling overly hot. The right temperature is ultimately a matter of personal preference.

Ongoing maintenance is straightforward once you are familiar with the routine. As a general guide: test, balance and sanitise your water at least once per week; clean the filter every one to two weeks; drain and refill the spa every three to four months; and top up the water level as needed.

Our team can walk you through the full maintenance routine when you purchase, or carry out fortnightly spa pool valets to assist.

Good water care involves three areas: filtration, sanitisation, and chemical balance. Your spa’s filtration system manages much of the day-to-day work, but regular water testing and chemical dosing is essential to keep the water safe and clear.

We stock a full range of spa chemicals and accessories, and our team can advise on the best maintenance programme for your spa.

Ozone is a natural sanitiser that significantly reduces the need for traditional spa chemicals. An ozone generator produces ozone gas which is introduced into the water, where it neutralises bacteria and other contaminants. Many customers prefer ozone-assisted systems as they are gentler on skin and eyes while maintaining excellent water quality.

Absolutely. Spa pools are designed for year-round use, and many owners find them most enjoyable during the cooler months. A quality, well-insulated spa pool will hold its temperature efficiently even in chilly New Zealand conditions.

A well-maintained pool from a reputable manufacturer can last 15–20 years or more. Longevity does depend on build quality, how consistently the water is maintained, and regular servicing.

Warranty terms vary by model. For example, the premium Cyclone range includes a 100-year TuffFrame™ structural warranty, a 10-year shell structure warranty, a 5-year shell acrylic warranty, and a 7-year warranty on pumps, electronic equipment, jets, plumbing, and the heater.

Our swim spas and Urban Pools on the other hand carry a 25-year structural warranty. Please speak with our team for the specific warranty terms applicable to the model you are considering.

Delivery method and cost are assessed on a case-by-case basis, as there are a number of variables to consider including property access, path width, steps, and overhead clearance. For straightforward access, we use a trolley to position the spa. For more challenging access, we work with trusted specialist partners who use Hiab trucks or cranes.

Please visit our Spa Delivery page for full details.

Not always – but for properties with narrow access, tight corners, steps, or for swim spas, a crane or Hiab truck is often the safest and most practical option. We will always discuss spa pool delivery requirements with you well in advance of the delivery date.

Yes. All spa pools and swim spas must be connected by a registered electrical contractor and installed to all relevant New Zealand codes and standards. An Electrical Safety Certificate is required upon completion. Unless otherwise arranged at the time of purchase, this is the responsibility of the customer to organise and fund.
